The OSD Audio Sound Platform SP2.1: An Exceptional Single Cabinet Surround Sound System

Low-profile systems like the OSD Audio Sound Platform SP2.1 are gaining popularity since surround sound enthusiasts are craving less clutter when installing new speakers. The benefit of the OSD Audio Sound Platform SP2.1 is that although it’s a single speaker system, you’ll still have theater-like sound when using the product.

The OSD Audio Sound Platform SP2.1 is versatile and where you install it is really up to you. You can choose to set up the system in front of the TV set, below it or tuck it away inside a TV cabinet. If you do set a TV on top of the speaker cabinet, the set can’t weigh more than 85 pounds.

Inside of the single speaker cabinet, you’ll find everything you need for phenomenal audio quality for your home theater: dual subwoofers measuring 5 ¼ inches, four 2-½-inch midrange speakers and a set of 1-inch silk tweeters. It has several output options including RCA analog, optical and coaxial digital. The system has 80 watts power handling and has individualized amp channels for each speaker inside the cabinet. Bass is exceptional for the OSD Audio Sound Platform SP2.1, a surprising benefit since the low-profile design isn’t bulky and doesn’t require extra amps.

The new surround systems being rolled out are coming with Bluetooth capabilities. Consumers love this feature since it allows them to play their music library stored on a smartphone, computer or tablet. The sound quality is not typically as good when using the Bluetooth due to compression, but it will sound amazing compared to your device’s subpar speakers.

The remote for the OSD Audio Sound Platform SP2.1 will fit into the palm of your hand and is easy to use. Control the volume and audio features with a few simple key presses. If you’re unhappy with your audio selections, you can always hit the reset button to return the system to the defaults.

Setup will likely take less than 30 minutes and you’ll have everything you need to use the system right out of the box. The OSD Audio Sound Platform SP2.1 includes the A/V cables and power cords required to hook up the cabinet with your LCD or plasma HDTV. An instruction manual is included and phone support is available if you run into issues.

The OSD Audio Sound Platform SP2.1 retails for about $600 and does support Dolby decoding. The frequency response ranges from 35Hz to 20kHz. OSD has been previously known for its line of outdoor speakers with Bluetooth capabilities and the OSD Audio Sound Platform SP2.1 is its first foray into indoor surround sound systems. A smaller version that will handle lower wattage is expected to be released by OSD and will carry a price tag of $350.
